About UsThe Organization
Our HistoryFounded by Sarah Bandy to fulfill a life-long deam, the effort had humble beginnings in Texas. Sarah recued stays and lost animals in the neighborhood near Houton. Later she worked at the Spiddle Top Pit Bull Rescue and learned how to really handle dogs and a large kennel operation. Finally she became a vet tech and then things really got serious. In California, 2000, she resumed her quest to save the doomed and soon had a group of friends organized to help her. By 2004 the program had expanded and was formally organized as a non-profit. The Sanctuary is located near Merced, California on a small 6 acre ranch and is home to an average of 50 animals. Our PurposeA key purpose of the sanctuary is to salvage animals that would otherwise be destroyed and would not be or were not accepted into existing animal welfare programs. Most animals come to the Sanctuary as their last chance before "the needle of death" and are seriously damaged physically and emotionally. The principals of the organization are experienced and trained professional veterinary practitioners and the primary caregivers. There are no employees. The pricipals are also the leaseholders for the property where the sanctuary is located and the ones who buy the animal feed and pay the electric bill.
